You have no idea how bitter I am that those scenes were deleted. And that they got rid of like half the fucking script. ALL THAT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, LOST!
I don't blame you for being bitter. Because I liked the film but I was like ... there's so much it's missing and I couldn't really put my finger on it. I just had this reaction where I was like THIS IS GOOD WHY IS IT FALLING SHORT OF BEING PERFECT :(

I was honestly expecting some character development from The Machine as well because of the deleted scenes and the fact that it was a thinking machine. I just. POTENTIAL.
I know exactly what it was. While they were making the movie there was a debate in the studio over whether or not it should have dialogue. Some of them thought that it should be silent, like the short; others thought it would be too hard to communicate the relationships between dolls without dialogue. So they decided to compromise and make the script as sparse as possible.

Incidentally, the Russian version is entirely different and has a much more fleshed out script.

I mean, I love the movie! I am very fond of those little stitchpunks. But I just listen to the early interviews and hear all the dialogue they USED to have (like 7 explaining how she felt compelled to escape from the cathedral and 1's control) and know it could have been so much more than it was, if only they had kept all that information in.

That Machine DID have so much potential because it was created just like the others, and it started out totally neutral. Hell, when the men come for the Scientist, it even grabs onto him and tries to keep them from taking him.
Yes, I remember that scene! I was like dfgdfgdfgdfg oh my god. I'm weak to woobie robots :(. But yeah, I really enjoyed it! But I wanted more and that rankled me a bit.
Exactly. /:

Shane Acker wants to make a sequel, because in the five year process of making THIS movie he came up with tons of stuff to explore in that storyline/world/etc (including things like 7 taming rogue machines in order to make them her mounts. 7 is my hero.). I'd be happy if he did make one, particularly if he figured out that going halfway on the script will not cut it (which I think he can't have missed by now, it's the main criticism).

I kind of feel like this movie was a trailer.

I think they should have had the war/end of the war been the first half of the movie, and then 9's story the second. Because all the stuff that went down with the Scientist and his history is actually really interesting, if you read his journal. And how he cooperated with the rebels and gave them the Stitchpunks to release out into the world and all his notes on how they each behaved after they woke up (such as freaking adorable things like his note on 2: "And then he did something none of my creations have ever done... he smiled.") and his fights with the Chancellor AND THAT'S INTERESTING STUFF THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO INCLUDE, GUYS.
I rather thought the fact that the entire world in the future... was a dictatorship. It's an odd leap into the future, especially when they've advanced into machines. Also it's clear that the entire world wasn't like that since they call it a country. So what's the rest of the world doing? Did they cordon it off?

The movie reminds me a bit of Vexille in terms of crazy politics.
It's not in the future, actually. It's set in the earlier half of the 20th century. If you look at the globe that the twins have, the continents are shaped all wrong. It's an alternate world that's meant to emulate ours, but isn't exactly ours.

And the country that the dictatorship is in is an amalgamation of Germany, England and France, mostly.
Not to threadjack, but I'm SO HAPPY TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE FEELS THAT WAY, TOO XD Except I keep calling it a pilot for a longer series. I tend to feel that everyone was a bit too in love with the funeral scene from the original short to let go of it, and that KILLING OFF OVER HALF THE MAIN CAST was unneeded, especially after all the comments by Shane in interviews about how they're only a whole person when they work together and yet they're never alive onscreen all together and this makes me D: a lot.

And your 7 brings me GREAT JOY. I hope you get more than the twins (unless you have, as I've been too topped by PhD to stalk CFUD or CFO these days). And I want to read an app for 1 so badly XD
I don't mind killing off so many near the end, but maybe that's because my favorites got to live, haha. What I do mind is we only get a few minutes with characters like 2 and 6 before they die, and I love 2 and 6 and would have adored more time with them.

Did you see the deleted scene of the funeral? So much better.

Haha, while our 7 is indeed wonderful, I don't play her. I play 3! And I do long for more castmates. We had a 9 in the beta post a while ago, but they never apped, and that made me sad.
...I wonder if anyone on the developmental staff realised they were effectively dooming 5 to be the fandom woobie after a death like that!

Oh, yes. The deleted scenes in general are so much stronger than what made it into the final film...Have you come across that screenplay that was making the rounds on the forum? I love the fact 2 is made of a shoe. I can't believe I never noticed it on my own XD
...Then again, 6's fingers never registered to me, either. Until after I left the cinema and went OMG THAT IS SO COOL

I'm sorry about that! But you and 4 are likewise superb! I need to stalk your threads when I have more time. I've only read the playing-in-the-snow-thread, which made me melt from cute.
I'd give it a shot if I had more spare time, but I think the most I'm capable of right now are turning my doll-making abilities to making stitchpunks, which I will photograph and spam CFO with if I ever get them done XD
